App to help diagnose dementia

leave a comment »

A new app aimed at identifying dementia is to be trialed in Walsall, we understand.

The CantaMobile app uses a touch screen test and the outcomes will inform whether to refer patients for further tests. Interesting . . .

Dementia care programme manager for NHS Walsall and Walsall Council, Michael Hurt, was reported as saying: “We want to pick people up as early as possible and we don’t do that with paper tests. If it’s successful I would like to see a general roll out across the area.”

The tool will now be tested on iPads.

It’s a fascinating prospect and maybe we’re just a breath away from self-testing apps for iPhone and android market handsets. Could this be of use to care home operators?
